The Emerald Exchange Returns to Southern California This Weekend

SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA – The fourth installation of The Emerald Exchange returns to Southern California this weekend for two days of exposure to and engagement with a select group of farmers from Northern California. Building on the success of previous Emerald Exchanges, this year’s iteration is decidedly bigger, featuring more of everything, while still promising to maintain the authenticity and sense of community that has made it a stand-out event for all members of the industry, but especially local retailers seeking to establish relationships with outdoor growers they may not have…

The Emerald Exchange Bulks Up

MOORPARK, Calif. – Southern California was once again treated to fine sun-grown, Northern California cannabis this weekend, courtesy of The Emerald Exchange and the farmers who made the trek south to share their produce and explain what they’re all about. For 2017, the event was moved from the Malibu hills to the rolling, agricultural terrain of Ventura County’s Moorpark. Cannabis Reparations? D.C. Explores Priority for Black-Owned Businesses

Washington, D.C., America’s capital city, is also one of America’s Blackest cities. But advocates for an equitable cannabis market say the same cannot be said for the racial makeup of the growing industry. New legislation could change that by mandating a certain percentage of Black-owned cannabis businesses in historically-Black areas. A full 49 percent of the district’s citizens are Black. This is a dramatic shift downward from the early 1970s, when Black people accounted for more than 70 percent of D.C.’s residents — and, despite or perhaps because of ongoing…

Data Links LA Crime Spikes To Cannabis Dispensary Closures

A new study published in the Journal of Urban Economics found that the closure of more than 400 Los Angeles, California medical cannabis dispensaries in 2010 caused an increase in crime activity for blocks. Study authors, Tom Y. Chang and Mireille Jacobson, discussed their findings in the Harvard Business Review. They said they looked at the wave of dispensary closures that hit Los Angeles at the turn of the decade because the number of shops closing offered a meaningful data set with an array of variables to consider.
